Hopefully, you’ve read Part 1 already… here is
Weekend Warrior – Part 2
When we bought our house, we took the ugly green/gray room directly across from the master bedroom and made a gender neutral nursery (we had not yet found out it would be a boy). Now that our second child is on the way, and it’s a girl, I thought we would just leave the room the same – boy was I wrong! Between the wife’s nesting feelings and the extended family’s excitement over a little girl, the room was going to be redone. Luckily, the gender-neutral decor would only have to be partially redone.

What a long hard weekend it’s been. So much so, that I plan to make the weekend projects the topic of several of my posts this week…
Weekend Warrior – Part 1
I bought a house in 2007 that was nice, but needed a lot of cosmetic changes, starting with paint, windows, lighting, etc etc etc… At the time, we were expecting our first child and with three bedrooms, we had space for a dedicated guest room. Now that we are expecting a daughter, we decided to lose the guest room and make it into a toddler room.

This is unrelated to architecture, but you should go get this book….

32 Candles Website
32 Candles on Facebook
32 Candles Book Signing in Trenton (Facebook Event)
32 Candles at Amazon
It’s written by my very dear friend, Ernessa T. Carter, who when she gets super rich from selling lots of copies of her amazing book, will hire me to design a new house in Hawaii for her! So you see, maybe it is architecturally related after all! So buy it in person, order it from an online retailer, get it on your Kindle, iPad, iPhone, or Nook – and get it this week to help get her on the NYTimes Bestsellers List!

That's one big f'en house
The AP had a story on a home that you may be interested in…
The 90,000-square-foot home for sale outside Orlando has 23 bathrooms, 13 bedrooms, 10 kitchens and three pools. All that and more for $75 million “as is.” The catch? It’s not finished.

Pop Up Architecture
Sometimes, architecture isn’t built – it’s cut out in little folding pieces of paper. Next time you send me a greeting card, make it one of these! Check these out and more here and the artist’s other creations here!

Artworks in Tenton hosts an annual event at the old Roebling plant (Clinton Ave) called Art All Nite. If you’ve never been, Art All Nite is going on now! Lasts til 3 pm Sunday. Food, live music, glass blowing, performance art, booze (always helps) and, of course art, art, and art. If you’re within an hour or so of Trenton, GET HERE! I’m calling it quits for the night at 1:30 am, but it’s still packed with people. I’ll just have to come back tomorrow (today)!

Your Brain on Gehry
After reading a previous post, a friend of mine suggested I pass along this blog post she found.
Here is a building by Frank Gehry being blogged about bother here and here. While fun to look at, I wonder if the outward expression of the building is overshadowing the interior space. I haven’t been here, so I can’t personally comment on that, but if form follows function – what the hell is happening inside this building?
If you look through the comments on the other blogs, you’ll see some great comments. My favorite so far:
Gehry makes interesting architectural sculpture — unbelievably dreadful buildings, mind you, but fascinating works of sculpture.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Exit from 95 to Street Road
Anyone who lives in or around Philly/Trenton knows Street Road. Yes, Street Road. Clearly someone named this street before GPS was around. If you try to enter Street into your GPS, it will return about 10,000 results. But that’s not the only poorly chosen street name. In fact, urban planners often draw up large scale site plans with new roads and use placeholders that no one ever changes. In almost every metropolitan area there is a “New Street” – usually because no one cared to name it and it was on someone’s plan as a new street, so that’s what the sign says.
So here are some other street signs that may get you and your Garmin in trouble while traveling:

I bought a nice big printer when I started my firm. It was probably a little too much printer for what I needed, but none-the-less, I got it. Laser, color, duplexing – I even added an extra paper drawer to it. So after 4 years of working great, I had a huge print job I had to run – 300 pages, full color, front and back, on card stock – and I noticed how SLOW it was running. The job emptied my toner, so while ordering replacements, I would add some RAM and upgrade the firmware. Bad idea…. the firmware update killed the printer! Fried the control board from what I can tell. A combination of poor engineering and poor customer service let me to look at options other than through the manufacturer (who will remain nameless, but rhymes with “bell”). (more…)
